President and Mohammed bin Rashid welcome UAE guests attending WGS 2024

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, welcomed guests arriving in the UAE (UAE) to attend the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, which begins tomorrow under the theme “Shaping the Governments of the Future”.

The event, which will last three days, brings together more than 25 Heads of State and Government, 140 government delegations and more than 85 international organizations, as well as the distinguished participation of opinion leaders, experts and more than 4,000 participants.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the UAE continues its efforts to promote cooperation among world governments, based on the belief that current challenges can only be overcome through joint efforts and a collective commitment to unified visions that will move the world toward a more secure and prosperous future.

“The World Government Summit is a responsible invitation from the UAE to the entire world to join in dialogue, share knowledge and invest in new ideas and creative energies capable of creating innovative solutions to development challenges and responding people’s expectations of a good life and a better future,” said His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, for his part, noted that the World Government Summit has transformed, during its 11 years of existence, into a unique Global Forum that generates inspiring ideas. It celebrates successes and highlights the knowledge-based aspects of government work.

“The UAE believes that real governments are capable of translating citizens’ ambitions into a lasting reality. When the work of government experiences blockages and procrastination, when it depends on chance, these are signs of the end of development and the end of human civilization itself. When governments fail to fulfill their mission to lead and implement change, they give up their right to the present and the future; they withdraw from life,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rached.

The WGS will host 110 interactive dialogues and sessions with more than 200 distinguished speakers, including presidents, ministers and visionaries, as well as 23 ministerial meetings and executive sessions hosting more than 300 ministers and an elite group of Nobel laureates.

The Summit is expected to launch around 25 strategic reports in collaboration with think tanks, academic and research bodies addressing global trends in key sectors. Additionally, 15 global forums focused on strategizing and future planning in vital sectors will be organized in partnership with international organizations and global technology companies to address global challenges.

A multitude of roundtables and dialogues will take place during the Summit, including roundtables bringing together Heads of State, officials, thought leaders and representatives of international organizations and the private sector, all working together to strengthen cooperation and identify solutions to future challenges.

A number of high-level ministerial meetings are also planned during the event, including the meeting of Arab Finance Ministers; a meeting of energy ministers and a meeting of ministers involved in sustainable development.

Highlighting six main themes focusing on various key issues ranging from government work and artificial intelligence to health and education, the World Government Summit will award several global awards celebrating ministers and private sector actors for their exceptional contributions to a better world. It will also launch the Global Ministerial Survey, where ministers from around the world are invited to share their ideas on critical global issues and collaborate to create solutions.
